About
Emily uses both they/them and she/her pronouns.
Emily Murphy is a Virginian-born Illustrator who is currently based in Chicago, Illinois. They are a 2020 graduate of the Ringling College of Art and Design Illustration program. Emily’s current work is largely inspired by their personal journey of discovery concerning natural history and science, especially the world of paleontology. They were raised with a love of illustration from early childhood and seeks to create art which gives their viewers a sense of belonging and the same wonder and amazement they feel for the subjects they illustrate.
Emily’s pieces are created with several types of media, mainly Procreate these days, but they are also fond of watercolor, colored pencil, oil paint, and gouache.
As an illustrator, Emily hopes to inspire those who view their art to look for the wonder in the little things in life. As they are inspired by creatures crawling on the forest floor, or swimming in tide pools, or immortalized in rock, Emily aspires to encourage their audience to not shy away from unfamiliar things. Every second of life on Earth is a gift, and humans share that life with so many amazing beings. Emily’s work is about celebrating those present moments as well as bringing color and life to eras past.
